Everyone knows what a chicken egg looks like because most of us have eaten at least one egg in our lifetime.

AYAM CEMANI EGGS Ayam Cemanis are a striking sight. Their all black feathers have a beetle-green iridescence in sunlight that is stunning.
They are not an overly large fowl; the boys weigh in around 4.5-6.5lb, with the girls coming in at 3.5-4.5lb respectively, so more of a medium sized bird.
In appearance they are strong and muscular with close fitting feathers, not unlike a game bird. They strike a confident pose and are always alert. Cemanis in general seem to be a friendly and likeable bird.
They are intelligent, gentle and docile including the roosters. They have been described as flighty, but most people who have them or raise them say this The Ayam Cemani is a fairly poor egg layer.
On average they will lay around 80 eggs per year which is around 1 egg per week. They do seem to go ‘off lay’ for an extended period of time. Apparently, they will lay 20-30 eggs and then stop laying.
This can be up to 6 months, and then they will start all over again! In comparison to the size of the hen the eggs are quite large, and they are cream colored with a very slight pink tint, but they aren’t black like most people think.
I have seen several photos that show black eggs rest assured these are fake eggs. Some folks state they aren’t broody and yet others say they can be broody.
This may be due to differences in the blood lines obtained. is not so. They are an easy to handle and low maintenance fowl.
DUCK EGGS Duck eggs are much larger, heavier, longer and more oval in shape than chicken eggs. When it comes to color duck eggs are more like chicken eggs and can range in hue from white, to light green and blue to shades of brown.
The duck yolk is about twice as large as the chicken yolk and the duck yolk also has a much deeper yellow/orange color compared to chicken yolks. When it comes to the egg whites, the duck egg whites are super thick and far more slow-moving.
When you crack a duck egg you expect the contents to drop swiftly into the bowl. The egg white seems like it is in suspended animation.
Yeah, it’s that thick. While the chicken eggshell seems more like the width of a couple of sheets of paper, the duck shell is more like ten sheets.
Duck eggshells are also thicker and harder to break than a chicken egg. You may even have to whack a duck egg more than once to crack it.
Once it is cracked, you’ll also notice how soft the interior is with a texture that resembles soft fleece.
The other big difference between duck eggs and chicken eggs has to do with the color of the egg whites.
Duck egg whites truly are clearer and appear translucent compared to chicken egg whites which have a heavier yellow tint. The Duck is a great alternative to chicken eggs.
