Turkey’s famous ghost town is full of beautiful castles like in a fairy tale

Burj Al Babas, one of the largest ghost towns in the world with hundreds of unfinished Turkish villas.

Burj Al Babas is an urban area made up of hundreds of abandoned Disney castle-style villas in Turkey.

Burj Al Babas with hundreds of magnificent castles like in fairy tales, is designed to become a bustling resort for the super-rich of the world. The Disney castles-inspired villas are scattered in a picturesque valley near the historic village of Mudurnu in northwestern Turkey.

However, to this day Burj Al Babas is abandoned, becoming one of the largest ghost towns in the world with hundreds of unfinished villas, the rest have deteriorated.

Stories of ambition, soaring real estate prices and economic difficulties ultimately marked the end of Burj Al Babas’ dream.

The unique castle village in Turkey is the brainchild of the Yerdelen brothers, who run the construction company Sarot Property Group. Their goal is to attract wealthy Middle Eastern home buyers, as many enjoy vacationing in Turkey with its cool Mediterranean climate, beautiful surroundings, and affordable villa prices.

Originally priced at $ 400,000 to $ 500,000 apiece, Yerdelen sold about half of the 700 units before it all fell apart.

First the sharp drop in oil prices, which affected target buyers, then a series of events that pushed the Turkish economy into a downward spiral that has not yet recovered.

An ambitious project that attracts all who hear it. The houses built in the area are famous for their wonderful natural hot springs. Each Burj Al Babas villa has underfloor heating, an indoor pool and a hot tub.

A huge mall with a beautiful design inspired by the Capitol, in the United States. The gardens, the ponds are carefully maintained to create a poetic landscape as in a fairy tale.

Construction began in 2014, employing over 2,500 people, and things have moved fairly quickly. But then sales plummeted, the Turkish lira collapsed, Yerdelen couldn’t pay the company’s loans, and construction came to a halt. In 2019, Burj Al Arab is more than halfway through and things haven’t progressed much since.

Instead of the notable bustle of the wealthy businessmen of the bay, Burj Al Babas now attracts curious visitors interested in the Ghost Town.
